Six Underrated Bad-Ass Dads

Image
Once again disappointed his dad didn't Make the list. Parenting is hard. Mistakes are going to be made but you have to take the good with the bad. We give you six Underrated Bad-Ass Dads for fathers day. Sure, you might think they are all terrible, but as usual, you’re wrong. Thanos - The Avengers “I am inevitable.” Cons - Wants to kill half the living things in the universe. Willing to murder his favorite daughter. Pros - He’s goal-oriented, resilient, and focused and he passed these traits to his kids (okay their goal is to stop him and kill him but still). Sure his unconventional parenting may have not been the best way to go about it (one kid is half cyborg and they both want to kill him) but there is no question he didn’t raise a couple of totally badass daughters. Sure your dad didn’t kill you or make you fight your sister and then take body parts from the loser, but can he kick the Hulks ass? No, he can’t. Walter White - Breaking B...

It's time to go back to Hell

Image
New Book Does more " Awesome read. Bad cop v bad guy continue their fight in hell. Fun vision of hell as a thorny battleground filled with weapons and smack talk. Reads fast and like you are watching an action movie --but no special effects could live up to story playing in your head." sound good to you? or perhaps some "...  would make an awesome graphic novel. A one-eyed guy with a knife sticking out of his back, battling his way through a hierarchy of bad guys in Hell, tells the story of his death and its aftermath. Big fun if you're so inclined, but if you prefer cozies, shoot some meth first." sounds like a good time? Well, you're in luck. Bodie Myers has unleashed yet another round with The Walking Funeral.  The Devil You Know - Hell Book 3  has risen up from the depths and now walks the earth. The hardcore, hyper-violent, action, horror, splatterpunk, noir series is back bitches, and it's back with a vengeance. We're going to cel...

A Night at Swinging Dick's Saloon

Image
Swinging Dick's Saloon, the kind of dive that has way better beers on tap than a hole in the wall like it should have. Like this one It's the kind of place that doesn't have to say it's a dive bar because everyone knows just by looking at the place. Also, any bar that advertises itself as a dive bar is not a dive bar. This is not Swinging Dicks Saloon It's the kind of place where the owner (Dick though he tells people to call him, Richard) is often the drunkest guy in the place, though sometimes he drinks in the bar down the street because the barmaids are hotter. This is not Dick but he is a regular It's the kind of place where the barmaids wear skimpy outfits even when they shouldn't. They do wear more than her but not much more It's the kind of place where the bartender never remembers what your drink of choice is but he believes he does. Not my drink of choice but still pretty good They have live bands on the...

Image
It's that time again. Time for the best five books of 2018. Well, the best five indie pulp fiction books, Okay, maybe not the best, but the best we read. In no particular order our favorite books from 2018: Know Me From Smoke - Matt Phillips - Fahrenheit 13 This one is old school noir done right.  The dialog cuts and so do the knives. Convicted killer Royal Atkins finds himself back on the streets and in a relationship with Stella Radney, a singer* whose husband was a victim of Royal's. What could go wrong? Well, a lot, a whole hell of a lot. Find some trouble here Scapegoat - Adam Howe and James Newman - Honey Badger Press A non-stop bit of wrong place and wrong time backwoods horror filled with dark humor, religious fanatics, violence, gore, bizarre rituals, and 80's metal.   Three old friends and former bandmates from thei...

This is the best New Year's Resolution

Image
WWJD? He'd read some Bad-Ass Books. Face it, most new years resolutions suck. You aren't going to lose weight. There's a reason you drink too much. If last year didn't rock the arbitrary date declaring it a new year won't change anything. There is something you can do, however (besides resolving never to make resolutions) and it's simple, cheap and fun. Read more books. If you need to get more specific, read more fiction. If you want to get even more specific read indie fiction. Yep, that last part is self-serving. We sell indie fiction and yeah, we want you to buy some. To get you started we're practically giving away some cool books and also literally giving away a few others. Need some action-packed horror?  The New Mexico Institute of Re-Animation  is free all day New Year's day. FREE Prefer some hardboiled noir while nursing that hangover. We've got  Captain Cooker  as a countdown deal until mid-morning and the second ...

More Free Sample Saturday? Damn right.

A little taste of  The New Mexico Institute of Re-Animation Chandler was looking at the wall when he heard something hit the floor. He assumed the sounds of a struggle were just Eddie going to town with the blade.  He wanted Eddie to kill Bobby on the table, it would make clean up a lot easier. The footsteps he heard next didn’t sound like Eddie’s work shoes. He turned to see a blood-covered Bandsaw Bobby standing over Eddie's body. The knife Eddie was supposed to use on Bobby was in the dead serial killer's fist. “Holy shit,” Chandler said as he started running for the door. Bandsaw Bobby was fast for a dead man. He caught Chandler just before he reached the door by the collar of Chandler’s lab coat. Bandsaw pulled Dr. Chandler within stabbing range and then brought the knife down on the top of Chandler’s head, driving the blade through his skull and into his brain. Bandsaw spun Chandler around with the knife stuck in the top of the doctor’s head so he could l...

Free Sample Saturday is back, bitches

Image
We've got a bit of  Todd Morr's  latest horror novella  The New Mexico Institute of Re-Animation  for you on the return of Free Sample Saturday. Enjoy. Chapter 1 - Ashley and Bandsaw Bobby “Remember what we talked about honey, don’t look into his eyes.  The eyes will fool you and make you think he’s a human being like you and me, but he’s not. Aim for his chest and then squeeze the trigger, just like we did at the range.” Ashley nodded and help out her hand. Her father passed her the unloaded Glock 17 and then a magazine full of nine-millimeter cartridges. “You know, you don’t have to do this,” James said to his teenage daughter.    Denise gave James a harsh look, she didn’t come all the way out here to see the little brat back down. James gave her a wink and a reassuring nod. Ashley acted like she didn’t notice the exchange between her father and his former secretary. She tried,  as always, to pretend Denise, who wa...
